When are the deadlines to apply to Canadian Universities?
Some universities have an early priority deadline of Nov 7th, but the regular deadline is around mid January during senior year.
Where do I apply to Canadian universities?
Canadian university applications are not centralized; each university has their own separate portals. However, universities in Ontario, e.g. University of Toronto and University of Waterloo, use a common portal called OUAC.
How many Canadian universities should I apply to?
We generally recommend a balanced list of around 6 universities.
Do Canadian universities offer scholarships?
Yes, Canadian universities can offer partial merit-based scholarships upon admissions. Some scholarship schemes like the Pearson Scholarship at University of Toronto or the International Scholars Program at University of British Columbia can be full-ride scholarships.
Do I need to take the SAT to apply to Canada?
No, SAT is not a requirement. In some cases, if you attend a US curriculum high school and for certain specific programs, they do accept the SAT.
Do Canadian universities consider extracurricular activities?
Most Canadian universities do not; they focus almost exclusively on grades. Some Canadian universities like University of British Columbia allow you to include some activities in your application.
How many essays do I need to write for Canadian universities?
It varies. There are no personal statements. Some universities like McGill do not have any essays whereas University of British Columbia has 3-6 essays depending on the program you apply.
How long are those essays?
They are around 300 words each.
Do I need to take the TOEFL or IELTS?
It depends. Some universities require all international students to submit the TOEFL/IELTS. Others can give you an exemption if you have attended an English-medium high school for the last 3 years prior to your college applications.
Do Canadian universities require interviews?
No. However, for some universities, you will need to submit a video interview. It’s a recording of you answering certain prompts from the university under a specific time limit. It is usually no more than 10 min.
